On Saturday I had a nice day. I took a makeup course. It was 4hours long and divided into two parts: first the part where we got theoretical knowledge and then the part where we had to put it into action. There were actually two parts to the course, the first one was as named above the photography and stage side, and the other was I believe the evening one, but I'm not sure. I could have put my name still down for that one in the morning of the course, but I decided that I'm not going to do that, since I wanted to spend some time at home too. I don't get to spend time at home so much.

In the beginning of the 4hour day we were given a brief introduction of the school and then the makeup artist who was teaching us introduced herself. Her name is Kätlin Rohilaid- Aljaste and she is a makeup artist of Royal Effemin Estonia.

Most of the things I knew already, but there were a couple of new things for me to find out:

First was that Italians find it odd that in Estonia women put foundation also on their necks.

Second was that it is totally OK to draw your lips larger, but the trick is that you have to follow your natural lip contour.

The third was actually the brushes she use to create the look. She used more flat and stiffer brushes I would say, as opposed to me I love rounder brushes.

I didn't say to anyone that I have been doing my own makeup (and lately one or two peoples too sometimes) for 15 years already, so I have a bit of exercise. That brought me to a lovely feeling of recognizing what she talks about and I was so able to comprehend what she was talking about completely. I really love when I understand what people talk about :).

For example I found it lovely that she put lots of layers on the models face (she had a model she did makeup during the first part of the course), just like I love to do. Also I loved the blending part. I do put extra care into blending my eye makeup all the time nicely. She also said to me that I did a really good job with the blending and liner. Made me happy, since I was not at all pleased with the liner work, it was like a micro mm off, but of well.

One thing that I found odd at first was that she didn't use any primer on the models face nor eyes, just the BB cream and foundation. She didn't even set the makeup with powder, but I have to say that the makeup did really look nice on the model. No pictures though, since I didn't want to draw any attention on me by asking for permission.

I loved that she used the 3E technique for bronzer. I also found out, or got the idea that I can use shimmering bronzer, just with the 3E and then later contour with a matte bronzer or contouring powder.

The second part of the course was us putting our new knowledge into action. I tried to do everything how she said. I admit, I did do a bit of my own thing by not putting so much foundation on as I was supposed to, since I wanted to try the photography makeup, but the again, I wanted to go to the store too after the course!

I can say in conclusion that I really enjoyed the experience and I do want to take more courses in full lenght! The teacher was great and patient with everyone. She courage to ask questions and explained everything really well!

As far as to the Royal Effem makeup we used. I have to say I was not so amazed by the foundation at first. Later I found that the foundation doesn't melt of with time, but melts more into the skin in a good way. It looks lovely even after hours, as do the eye shadows! I am truly amazed by their makeup!
